Reading
At Shottermill we love reading. Have a look at some of our reading areas.
We use a mixture of Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Big Cat books, Big Cat letters and Sounds and Bug Club phonics books for our early readers. These are matched carefully to the children's progression in phonics. The children will also bring home a sharing book; this is a book designed to be read by an adult. These books help to instil a love of reading and help the children to develop thier vocabulary. Our later books are colour banded so that once pupils are confident readers they can choose their own books at the right level of challenge. Some of the later scheme books that we have are Oxford Reading Tree, Project X and Code books, also Collins Big Cat and Pearsons Bug Club books.

We have identified a range of high quality texts to support our children across the curriculum. These texts offer the children a rich vocabulary as well as an opportunity to explore knowledge in different contexts. We have also identified texts that we believe that children simply must experience. Please click on the picture below to see the books.
